Their stories inspire, inform, educate and challenge our viewers. We are grateful to have you help support so many nonprofits in Asheville and the WNC region!Įvery month Rainbow Inspiration features a member of our LGBTQ+ 55+ community. Thank you to all the donors who gave generously and a HUGE Thanks to MtnX and the wonderful staff. Thanks to MtnX and the Give!Local campaign we raised over $4,000 for our Community Partner Fund. Keep an eye out for exciting content spotlighting partner projects, successes, and learnings! This year, we’re expanding our reach and taking steps to grow program awareness, increase program donations, and amplify partner voices. Previously, our role stopped at sending a check. The Fund offers grants of up to $500 to fuel and spread these resources to maximize impact and minimize barriers to funding. The Community Partner Fund plays a key part in powering this vision of a thriving Western NC by funding individuals, groups, and nonprofits working to elevate local LGBTQ+ and allied communities. We envision an inclusive, engaged community where all are welcomed, uplifted, and valued. That's about double earlier estimates of the LGBT community’s size in the U.S. It says about 8% of respondents to the Census Bureau's Household Pulse Survey said they were lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The report analyzes data from the Census Bureau. could be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, according to a new report released by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. There could be twice as many LGBT adults in US than earlier estimated, report saysĪt least 20 million adults in the U.S. We look forward to working with everyone who is interested in creating the community we aspire to. We will be sharing more information about our community on our web site and in future newsletters. Sadly, the news isn’t all good. Almost 30% of LGBTQ Tarheels are food insecure. Over 20% are uninsured. We are also excited by new data emerging about the LGBTQ community. Where we had previously thought that the WNC LGBTQ community numbered roughly 40,000, latest estimates put this figure closer to 62,000. That’s a small city! The vast majority we have spoken to are excited by the notion of working together to build a community that is truly welcoming, equitable, and inclusive. We are so excited by the advent of the new year. During the past few months, we have been reaching out informally to constituents across the region – to LGBTQ groups, community services, businesses, government agencies, educators, and faith leaders.
